Homosexuality and other consensual "crimes". . .
I read comment after comment after comment about how allowing gay marriage is "forcing" others to accept gay marriage and no longer believe it is a sin. Here is yet another attempt on my part to dumb it down enough to make it clear: Allowing someone else the right to do something by no means takes away your right, forces you to participate or even to believe that what they are doing is moral.
You do not have to accept gay marriage. If the American government rules that gay marriage should be legal (and it will be all across the country eventually, mark my words since anything less is unconstitutional) it does not mean that YOU personally must now go out and marry someone of the same gender. You do not have to believe gay marriage or homosexuality is moral. Granting homosexuals the right to exist, or to legally marry, in NO WAY takes away any of YOUR rights whatsoever!
Here's another example to make it crystal clear. I have grandparents, I've been exposed to their friends. Believe me, I've heard many a bigoted remark about minorities; from African-Americans to homosexuals. I've met people who (unfortunately) still believe slavery should be allowed. So, whether gay marriage is legal or not, believe me, you are still free to be a bigot - no one has taken away that right. Unfortunately, simply allowing gay marriage will not turn the already hardened hearts of so many, that will take time and education.
I urge everyone to read the book "Ain't Nobody's Business If You Do; The Absurdity Of Consensual Crimes In A Free Society" by Peter McWilliams. This really shouldn't be such a difficult concept to grasp.

Yup.
Wow... allowing equality of gays doesn't mean you have to like it. Holy shit. It's sort of like saying John likes to eat spinach and he's allowed to, even though the thought of spinach grosses you out and you don't like it. Holy fucking hell.
I saw that comment too. I basically said it was their own fault if they couldn't learn to respect other people's decisions.
Agreed. It amazes me how the anti-gay marriage crowd cries about losing their rights when they are the ones wanting to restrict the rights of others.
everyone should be allowed to marry but no one should be allowed to divorce or something like that. Maybe we should just outlaw marriage altogether.
It's amazing how so many people feel the need to distance themselves from anything that has to do with gay rights. I think it's because they are scared of being suspected to be homosexual themselves so they take every opportunity to ensure everybody they're straight by being against gay rights. Once suspected they can never disprove the suspicion, right, so better stay clear. Consider the fact that in the past being homosexual was even illegal and punished severely, even by death. This mentality still exist and the shame and discrimination. But we won't go away and slowly things will change. One day, soon, homofobia will be as unacceptable as racism among most people. Fundamentalism is fading away while we gain momentum. I can feel it.
You stirred up a hornets nest, didn't you?
@love4meislove4U - Personally I don't get why anyone would be afraid of being thought of as gay. Either you are, or you aren't and what other's think is irrelivant to the truth.
I'm straight now, and I'll be straight for the rest of my life. My nephew is bisexual, and he will be so the rest of his life. We are who we are, and there's no crime.
Gay marriage is a civil ceremony, most often. So, no one's morals need be shaken, per the First Amendment.
The wind changes the lean of the tree... A stone changes the course of the stream... One man's music changes another man's mood. The butterfly effect.
Looks like I have something new to read. Thanks for this.
I've battled this bullshit long enough...Let's put it this way...I've been raised Roman Catholic my whole life and I fully respect and accept homosexuals. See, 98% of the people who use religion as a shield against gay marriage, haven't actually read the bible. Cause the bible says that shellfish is a sin to eat and we all know they enjoy shrimp platters. Or how, if you are married and your husband dies while you're both childless, you must sleep with his brother, until a boy is born. Christians are very judgmental...and that's where they contradict themselves, since their precious bible tells them not to judge. Not to mention...what happened to separation of church and state?!
On the other hand, the political part of it all...It's the same bullshit with Native Americans, the Jewish and Blacks...many people FEAR what they don't understand. And instead of trying to learn, they point fingers, raise their pitchforks and try to rid the earth of them.
It's sad...but the only triumph of such evil...is for us good people to do nothing.
